Dear Governor Christie:
I have been waiting for a political leader to surface that will speak honestly to the people about what needs to take place to right the course of the ship that is the country we treasure. Without these leaders we will sink at sea.
I was a stay at home mother of five for 19 years and was given the opportunity to have a radio talk show on our local talk radio Entercom station WBEN. I am also the mother of a Marine on his way to Afghanistan, a 2nd year cadet at Norwich University who will commission into the Marine Corp upon graduation, another who is a software engineer in the defense industry and two teenagers at home. My goal was to raise children who were kind, loved God and were patriots who would protect our freedoms.
I am horrified about the arrest, conviction and sentencing of Brian Aitken. If this is not rectified quickly we are all in danger of losing our 2nd amendment rights. I consider myself a law abiding citizen and often check laws to make sure I know what I am supposed to do. To think that a citizen can do this, follow the law and still lose his freedom is unconscionable. My oldest son is Brian’s age and to imagine having him lose his marriage, his child, his job, put his house up for sale and move across the country to be closer to his infant son, and have it end so badly is something that is depicted in a bad movie.
I watched you read “Twas the night before Christmas” with the Philharmonic the other night. I thought of Brian’s parents watching their son struggle with his life and now in prison. I believe you are a man who does the right thing and doesn’t have to take a poll to decide what that is. The wrong thing happened in this case and it cries out for you to act.
God Bless
Kathy Weppner
